The label of Skaterade, an apple-flavored energy drink designed by former competitive skateboarder Salman Agah, invites drinkers to “Join the Revolution.” The Revolution, unfortunately, seems to taste a lot like Red Bull, although Salman has managed to dodge a bitter aftertaste. Beyond that one flavor improvement, the cleverly-named Skaterade’s success or failure will obviously be determined by its appeal to its core demographic -- young male skateboarders. If they think it’s cool – and with the well-executed packaging, which features a funky blue and red label and a retro-cityscape, they just might – the brand will at least sell in skate shops and c-stores near skating hot spots. If they think it’s bogus – also a possibility, as they might decide that even an extreme athlete of Agah’s reputation could be accused of blatant commercialism in this case -- then Skaterade will likely need financial aid. It’s up to you, guys, but we do like the package and the taste has a small leg up on Red Bull.
